Comments:  Abeliophyllum distichum or Korean Abelia or White Forsythia is a deciduous shrub with an open, rapid, arching growth habit. It is a native of Korea.  In late Winter or early Spring, Abeliophyllum distichum produces prolific clusters of axilliary purple buds which opens to fragrant white blossoms borne on bare stems before foliage appear. Butterflies and bees are magnetized by the nectar-rich flowers, followed later by medium green leaves.  Korean Abelia is easily propagated from stem cuttings or simple layering.  It performs best in well-drained, acidic, neutral or mildly alkaline soil in a sunny to part shade environment. Prune White Forsythia hard after flowering season is over.  Mass plant for a delightful looking hedge.  This multi-stemmed shrub is a beauty in Spring.

USDA Zones:  5-8
