Comments:  Acalypha reptans or Dwarf Chenille or Firetail or Acalypha chamaedrifolia or Acalypha pendula or Acalypha repens is a tender tropical perennial with a low, fast trailing growth habit.  It is a native of New Guinea and Java.  All year round Acalypha reptans produces exotic bright red fuzzy catkins followed later by seeds.  It has fuzzy serrated green foliage.  Dwarf Chenille is easily propagtaed from seeds or rootball divisions.  It thrives best in well-drained, moist, rich, neutral pH soil in a sunny to part shade environment.  Firetail loves humidity and the foliage enjoys being misted on hot Summer days.  Alternatively, all container plant to sit atop wet pebbles in a tray filled with water.  Acalypha chamaedrifolia does not like cold weather.  It will die to the ground in Winter but will reemerge next season with a much stronger growth.  Pinch spent blossoms to promote more blooms.  Mass plant Acalypha pendula as ground covers for a terrific visual effect.  It is fast growing and soon forms a lovely mat.  Grown in a hanging basket, it is a delight to watch the exquisite catkins cascade down the sides.  In colder areas, Acalypha repens can be grown in a container and brought indoors for the Winter.  It makes a magnificent indoor plant.  Acalypha reptans is a terrifc show stopper and easily strikes up a conversation.

USDA Zones:  9b-11
