Comments: Acalypha wilkesiana or Copper Leaf or Jacob's Coat or Acalypha amentacea or Acalypha tricolor is a herbaceous tender tropical shrub with a moderate, upright, spreading growth habit. It is a native of the South Pacific islands. In late Summer, Acalypha wilkesiana produces long narrow spikes of brownish-bronze, small flowers. It has exquisite multi-colored, herbaceous, serrated, oval-shaped foliage. Copper Leaf is easily propagated from rootball divisions, stem cuttings or tip cuttings taken in Spring. It thrives best in well-drained, moist, acidic, humus-rich soil in a sunny to part shade environment. The foliage color of Jacob's Coat is more vivid bronze in sun. It tolerates heat and humidity. Trim to control size and shape. Mulch well to protect from frost. Mass plant Acalpha amentacea for a colorful hedge. It can be container cultivated for the sunny patio or deck. In colder areas, it is grown as an annual or bring plant indoors for the Winter. Acalypha tricolor makes a lovely houseplant. It compliments well with other flowering plants.
