Comments:  Achillea millefolium 'Summer Pastels' or Fernleaf Yarrow or Milfoil or Sanguinary or Soldier's Woundwort, or Staunchweed or Thousandleaf Yarrow is a herbaceous hybrid perennial plant with a medium growth rate.  It has lovely soft ferny green foliage.  In late Spring or early Summer, Achillea millefolium 'Summer Pastels' produces clusters  of exquisite rainbow-colored flat, wide blossoms of purple, pale yellow and white on 2' long stems, followed later by seeds.  Butterflies and bees are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms while birds enjoy feasting on the seeds. Florists are delighted with the lovely fresh cut flowers.  Milfoil 'Summer Pastels' is easily propagated from rootball divisions.  Seeds do not come true to parent.  Sanguinary 'Summer Pastels' thrive best in well-drained, mildly acidic, neutral or mildly alkaline soil in a sunny environment.  It does well in coastal gardens.  Achillea millefolium 'Summer Pastels' is not very aggressive and tolerates drought once established.  Mass plant Soldier's Woundwort 'Summer Pastels' in the rock garden for added colors.  Fernleaf Yarrow can also be container cultivated.  Use Staunchweed 'Summer Pastels' for xeriscaping to brighten up the dry landscape.  Thousandleaf Yarrow is a fabulous show-stopper.

USDA Zones:  3-9
