Comments:
Acidanthera murielae or Abyssinian Gladiolus or Fragrant Gladiolus or Peacock Orchid or Acidanthera bicolor or Gladiolus callianthus is a tender tropical perennial with an upright, clumping growth habit.  It is a native of East Africa.  In late Spring, Acidenthera murielae produces fragrant white blossoms with dark center on long stalk; 8 to 12 flowers appear on each stalk.  The cut flowers of this heirloom plant makes a nice bouquet.  It has upright, green linear grassy foliage with mid-rib.  Alyssinian Gladiolus is easily propagated from corms or plant divisions.  It thrives best in rich, sandy, clayey, loamy moist mildly acidic or neutral soil.  Gladiolus callianthus is a butterfly and bird attractor.  Mass plant Fragrant Gladiolus in rock gardens at intervals of a week apart for a continuous showcase of blossoms. Deers tend to avoid them.  Mix plant Peacock Orchid in borders with other sturdier perennials so they can lend support. In Winter, dig Peacock Orchid bulbs and store in cool dry place for Spring planting.  Acidanthera bicolor is long blooming.  It adds colors to the Summer garden.

USDA Zones:  7-11
