Comments: Aconitum carmichaelii 'Arendsii' or Monkshood or Wolfbane or Aconitum cammarum is a long-lived perennial with an upright clumping growth habit. It is a showy hybrid. Aconitum carmichaelii 'Arendsii' is a late bloomer with hood-like blossoms, hence its common name 'Monkshood'. In late Summer or early Fall, it produces exquisite large masses of bright blue flowers held on thick, upright stems. Butterflies and bees are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms. The freshly cut flowers make a wonderful bouquet. Wolfbane has lovely smooth, glossy, leathery, dark green deeply divided foliage. Monskhood is easily propagated from offsets or rootball divisions. It performs best in well-drained, moist, rich soil in a sunny to part shade environment. Mulch Aconitum carmichaelii well to preserve moisture. It can also be container cultivated. Deers would not go near this plant. Mass plant Aconitum cammarum in beds, borders or at the edges of woods for a spectacular display. The strikingly intense blue blossoms stands out in the Fall landscape. Monkshood 'Arendsii' will steal your heart away.
