Comments:  Agapanthus 'Elaine' or Lily of Nile is a perennial bulbouse plant with a vigorous, erect, clumping growth habit.  It is a hybrid by hybridizer, Archie Amate (1990).  In mid-Summer, Agapanthus 'Elaine' sends out 4' long stalks of showy large dark blue-violet flower globes.  Butterflies, bees and birds are magnetized by its nectar-rich flowers.  It has evergreen, strappy, broad, upright green leaves.  Lily of Nile is easily propagated from offsets or bulb divisions.  It thrives best in well-drained soil in a sunny to part shade environment.  Agapanthus 'Elaine'  is low maintenance and tolerates drought when established, hence ideal for xeriscaping.  Mass plant in borders for a terrific display in the part shade Summer and Fall landscape.  Lily of Nile can also be container cultivated.  These fire retardant perennials make ideal foliage plants in the absence of its blossoms.  The long lasting dark blue flowers captures a lot of attention as they really stand out in the garden and are popularly grown by many avid gardeners.

USDA Zones:  7b-10
