Comments:  Allium caeruleum or Azure Flowered Garlic or Blue Flowered Garlic or Blue Globe Onion or Allium azureum is an ornamental bulbous perennial with a fast, growth habit.  It is a native of Asia.  In late spring, on each plant, Allium caeruleum produces several round clusters of ornamental star-shaped umbels, appearing on long thin stalks; this is later followed by eye-catching seedheads.  Bees are magnetized by the nectar-rich flowers.  The freshly cut flowers of Azure Flowered Garlic make a lovely bouquet while the dried flowerhead look great in dried floral arrangements.  The small deciduous green foliage clump dies back just before Blue Globe Onion produces flowers.  Allium azureum is easily propagated from clump divisions or offsets in Spring.  It thrives best in well-drained soil in a sunny environment.  Azure Flowered Garlic is low maintenance and tolerates drought in Summer when established.  Deers do not like to go near this plant.  Mass plant Blue Globe Onion in raised beds or borders for a delightful display.   It is excellent for naturalizing.  Allium caeruleum looks eye-catching in rock garden or in meadow planting.  It can also be container cultivated.  Azure Flowered Garlic captures everyone's attention.  I love its exquisite ornamental blue flowers.

USDA Zones:  4-8
