Comments: Alpinia zerumbet 'Variegata' or Pink Porcelain Lily or Variegated Shell Ginger is a herbaceous subtropical or tropical perennial with an upright, moderately fast clumping growth habit. It is not a native of North America. In late spring or early Summer, Alpinia zerumbet 'Variegata' produces fragrant, showy arching clusters of shell-like, white blossoms with pink tips and yellow and red throat, appearing on old growth. This is followed later by seeds. Pink Porcelain Lily has equally showy foliage with striking irregular creamy yellow stripe variegation. It is easily propagated from seeds, offsets or rhizomatous root divisions and thrives best in well-drained, rich loamy, sandy moist soil with peat moss added. Pink Porcelain Lily enjoys a sunny to part shade environment and loves humidity. In Winter, maintain a minimum temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Mass plant Alpinia zerumbet 'Variegata' in the back of the border of the shady garden for a superb tropical flair. As specimen plants, its architectural stature adds beauty and drama to the landscape. Pink Porcelain Lily looks equally impressive in containers for added colors in the partly shaded patio. Variegated Shell Ginger have medicinal value. The leaves and rhizomes contain relaxing properties. Alpinia zerumbet 'Variegata' is beautiful and is a terrific showstopper.
