Pleurisy Root is a lovely perennial plant with an erect, tuberous
growth habit. It is a native of south Ontario and varios states of
North America. In mid-Summer Asclepias tuberosa produces beautiful
terminal orange flowers which are magnets for hummingbirds, bees and
butterflies. It is a host plant for the Monarch
catterpillars. Butterfly Milkweed is easily propagated from seeds,
cuttings or tuberous root divisions. It is sun-loving and dwells best
in well-drained acidic soil. Pleurisy Root is low maintenance and
tolerate drought conditions. Mass plant for a terrific view in the
perennial bed or for a butterfly or hummingbird garden. Asclepias
tuberosa can also be container grown.
