Comments: Athyrium filix-femina or Lady Fern or Aspidium angustum or Athyrium angustum or Polypodium filix-femina is a tall, deciduous perennial with a fast rhizomatous growth habit. It is of native origin. Athyrium filix-femina has lovely arching foliage. It is easily propagated from spores, offsets or rootball divisions. Lady Fern thrives best in well-drained, richly composted moist soil in a part to full shade environment. It loves high humidity and enjoys being misted on hot Summer days. Aspidium angustum is low maintenance. It is a fast grower and soon forms a nice colony. Divide in Spring or all to prevent overcrowding. Polypodium filix-femina goes dormant in Winter and reemerges in Spring with a stronger growth. For added drama, mass plant in beds or under taller trees as eye-catching groundcovers. Anthyrium filix-femina can also be container cultivated for the patio. Grow Aspidium angustum in a woodland setting for a delightful visual effect. It is an attractive fern popularly cultivated by many hobbyists.
