Comments:  Cananga odorata or Ilang Ilang or Perfume Tree or Ylang Ylang or Cananga scortechinii or Uvaria odorata is an evergreen tropical tree with a fast, contorted growth habit.  It is a native of northern Australia, Phillipines, Malaysia and Burma.  Cananga odorata produces exotic fragrant, pale chartreuse 6-petaled blossoms followed later by seedpods. Ilang Ilang is propagated from seeds and thrives best in well-drained, mildly acidic soil in a sunny to part shade environment.  Ylang Ylang flowers are rich in oil and are highly sought in the manufacturing of the famous perfume Chanel No. 5, aromatherapy and soaps.  Grow Perfume Tree close by the house so you can enjoy the wonderful scent.  Cananga scortechinii can also be cultivated in a large container for indoors.  It is an attractive tree that can perfumeate the neighborhood. Uvaria odorata is highly sought by many gardeners and hobbyists alike.
