Comments: Chasmanthium latifolium 'River Mist' or River Mist Northern Sea Oats or Variegated Northern Sea Oats with a fast, upright, clumping growth habit. This is the variegated variety of the Northern Sea Oats. It has showy, narrow, linear, bamboo-like foliage with striking green and white variegation droops when the flowers appear. In late Summer, Chasmanthium latifolium 'River Mist' produces clusters of ornamental silvery-white seas oats hanging for the arching stems which turn copper in the Fall. The freshly cut flowers make excellent bouquets while the dried flowers look excellent in dried floral arrangements. It is easily propagated from rootball divisions. River Mist Northern Sea Oats thrives in well-drained, moist, mildly acidic to neutral soil in a sunny to part shade environment. It is low maintenance and can tolerate sea salt, hence excellent for coastal gardens. Mass plant Variegated Northern Sea Oats around ponds or in a woodland setting for a spectacular show. It can also be container cultivated. The ornate seedheads persists into Winter, add much interest in the landscape.
