Comments:  Clerodendron bungei or Cashmere Bouquet or Mexicali Rose or Mexican Hydrangea or Clerodendron foetidum or Clerodendrum foetidum is a perennial shrub with a fast spreading growth habit.  It is a native of China.  In mid-Summer, Clerodendron bungei produces fragrant terminal panicles of purple-red blossoms that are about 6" across.  Butterflies and bees are magnetized by the nectar-rich flowers.  Freshly cut flowers make a lovely bouquet.  Cashmere Bouquet has attractive heart-shaped, deep green, purple-veined foliage.   It is easily propagated from rootball divisions.  Mexicali Rose best in well-drained, acidic or alkaline soil in a sunny to part shade environment.  It spreads by means of its suckering roots and plants were found growing a few feet away from the parent.   Mexican Hydrangea is carefree.  Use them as background plants.  Mass plant Cleroderum foetidum between concrete slabs or in containers to control spread.  The exquisite beauty and foliage of Clerodendron foetidum cannot be beat.

USDA Zones:  7-11
