Comments:  Coreopsis lanceolata or Lanceleaf Coreopsis or Tickseed Coreopsis or Coreopsis crassifolia or Coreopsis heterogyna or Coreopsis lanceolata villosa is an attractive annual or short-lived perennial with an upright, clumping growth habit. It is a native of central and south-eastern United States.  In late Spring or early Summer, Coreopsis lanceolata produces abundant bright yellow blossoms, borne on long leafless stalks, followed later by seeds. Butterflies and bees are magnetized by its nectar-rich blossoms of Lanceleaf Coreopsis while birds especially Gold Finches and Juncoes enjoy feasting on the seeds.  The cut flowers make a nice floral arrangement.  Tickseed Coreopsis have long, stiff hairs on the leaves and stems; the basal foliage are narrow and elongated.  It is easily propagated from seeds or rootball divisions.  It thrives best in well-drained, moist, acidic, neutral or alkaline soil in a sunny environment.  Coreopsis heterogyna has a short life span of about 3 years.  It is low maintenance and self-sows readily.  Provide sufficient room for it to spread.  Removing spent flowers will promote more blooms.  Coreopsis lanceolata villosa looks showy in mixed plantings.  Mass plant Tickseed Coreopsis in borders for a cheery display.  Grow them in a wildflower setting.  Coreopsis lanceolata is eye-catching and really brightens the Summer landscape.

USDA Zones:  4-9
