Comments:  Costus speciosus 'Variegatus' or Variegated Crepe Ginger or Variegated Spiral Ginger or Wild 'Variegatus' Ginger is a tender tropical perennial with a rhizomatous, spreading growth habit.  It is native to Malaysia and India.  In the Fall, Costus speciosus 'Variegatus' produces ornate white, crepe paper-like blossoms.  It has exquisite variegated green and white foliage which makes it an ideal foliage plant.  Variegated Crepe is easily propagated from rhizome divisions.  It performs best in well-drained, sandy soil in filtered shade.   The heavy stems can cause the plant to be floppy.  Variegated Spiral Ginger Winter looks terrific in accent planting or use it in the back of the border for an exquisite display.  In Winter, Wild 'Variegatus' Ginger dies back to  the ground and return next season with stronger growth.  Mass plant in the part shade garden for a dazzling tropical flair.  In colder areas, Coscus speciosus 'Variegatus' is grown as an annual and brought indoors for the Winter.  It attracts many admirers and is a fabulous show stopper.

USDA Zones:  9-11
