Comments:  Crocus sieberi 'Firefly' or Crocus or Snow Crocus or Species Crocus is a rare very cold hardy perennial bulbous plant with a moderate growth habit.  It is of hybrid origin.  In late Winter, before the leaves of this plant appear, Crocus sieberi 'Firefly' produces showy lilac flowers with orange throat surrounded by a broad white halo.  It has low, grassy, mid-green, thin, smooth foliage.  Snow Crocus 'Firefly' is easily propagated from offsets or bulb divisions; seedlings grown from seeds however will bloom a few weeks later and might or might not come.  It thrives best in well-drained, mildly acidic or neutral poor soil in a sunny location and goes dormant in Summer.  Mass plant Crocus sieberi 'Firefly' in borders, beds or as edging plants for a terrific display.  Use them in rock gardens for a colorful landscape.  Snow Crocus 'Firefly' can also be container cultivated. It is low maintenance.  Crocus sieberi 'Firefly' spreads fast and is excellent for naturalizing.  This harginger of Spring is a delightful show stopper.  Another cultivar, Crocus sieberi sublimis '
tricolor' is also very frost hardy.
