or Fernleaf Bleeding Heart is a herbaceous perennial plant with a
moderate, low, clumping growth habit. This dwarf hybrid has fine, soft
powdery gray-green fern-like leaves. From late Spring to Summer,
Dicentra 'King of Hearts produces very showy clusters of sprays of hot
pink, heart-shaped flowers on long stalks above lovely foliage.
Hummingbirds and butterflies are magnetized by its nectar-rich
blossoms. Fernleaf Bleeding Heart is easily propagated from rootball
divisions or seeds. Fernleaf Bleeding Heart performs well in
well-drained, loose rich moist soil in a part shade environment.
Provide sufficient water first year for a good root system. Keep plants
neat by removing lower dried foliage. Dicentra 'King of Hearts' is
resistant to rabbits and deers. When it gets overcrowded, divide in
Spring every few years. Mass plant Fernleaf Bleeding Heart in the
perennial border or in a woodland setting for a pleasing display,
especially around ferns or even hostas. It is a excellent plant for the
