Comments:  Dracaena sanderiana or Lucky Bamboo is a small tender tropical shrub with an upright, moderate growth habit.   It is native to Africa.  Dracaena sanderiana has showy variegated, smooth, glossy bronze-green leaves.  It produces fragrant white blooms in late Fall, Winter and Spring.  Lucky Bamboo is easily propagated from woody stem cuttings.  Wax the top ends to prevent fungus before planting.  Dracaena sanderiana thrives in well-drained, moist, acidic to neutral soil in filtered sun.  It can also be grown as a hydroponic plant, in a vase or container filled with pebbles and distilled water.  Provide Lucky Bamboo a weekly change of water and fertilizer biweekly with liquid fertilizer for optimum growth.  Dracaena sanderiana is also popularly called Kwan Yin Bamboo.  It is cultivated by many Chinese for Feng Shui or good fortune and is commonly seen used in businesses, office or home for prosperity and good luck.  Lucky Bamboo is not a bamboo.  Its  significance makes it a much desired plant.  Dracaena sanderiana has eye-catching leaves which makes it ideal for a foliage plant.  With time and patience, the stems can be trained to curve towards the light and then braided in a set of 3, 5 or 6 plants then tied with a red ribbon for 'chi'.  The numbers mean happiness, wealth and health respectively.  The Chinese do not like the number 4, meaning death.  In its native habitat, Dracaena sanderiana can be found growing under taller trees.  In colder areas, cultivated in containers and bring indoors for the Winter.

USDA Zones:  10-11
