Comments:  Echinacea purpurea or Eastern Coneflower or Brauneria purpurea is a herbaceous perennial with an upright, clumping  growth habit.  It is a native of United Staets.  In mid-Summer, Echinacea purpurea produces lovely pink blossoms, followed later by seeds.  Butterflies and bees are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms while the birds especially goldfinches enjoy feasting on the seeds.    Echinacea purpurea is easily progated from seeds or rootball divisions.  It thrives best in well-drained, acidic or alkaline soil in a sunny to part shade environment.  Eastern Coneflower is heat-loving and tolerates humidity.  It is drought tolerant, making it ideal for xeriscaping.  It  self sows freely so deadhead spent flowers to avoid having volunteer plants next season.  Brauneria purpurea is deer resistant.  Mass plant in perennial bed for a showy display.  Echinacea purpurea can also be container cultivated for the sunny deck or patio.  It is a show stopper.

USDA Zones:  2-10
