latifrons or Phyllocatus oxypetalus is a tropical succulent. It is a native central and south America. After few years' growth, Dutchman's Pipe Cactus produces dinner-sized, white very fragrant blossoms appear along edges of leaf in mid-Spring. The flowers open around mid-night. There can be as many as twenty buds blooming at one time, depending on the plant size. A lot of excitement surround the time of blooms and Chinese believe that it will bring you luck if you were able to watch the flower bloom. Epiphyllum oxypetalum is easily propagated from stem or leaf cuttings or offsets. It thrives best in well-drained, highly acidic soil, in a part sun environment. Night Blooming Cereus can also be container cultivated for indoors. It enjoys being root bound and does not tolerate frost. Cereus oxypetalus looks exquisite in hanging baskets.
