Comments:  Fallopia japonica or False Bamboo or Japanese Knotweed or Mexican Bamboo or Reynoutria or Pleuropterus cuspidatus or Pleuropterus zuccarinii or Polygonum japonicum or Polygonum zuccarinii or Reynoutria japonica is a herbaceous  perennial with a rapid, rhizomatous clumping growth habit.  This large plant is a native of China, Japan and Korea. Fallopia japonica has broad  heartshape leaves and hollow bamboo-like stems with nodes at joints.  It is easily propagated from seeds or rootball divisions.  False Bamboo thrives best in a part shade environment.  It is not picky about soil types.  On each plant, the blossoms are of one particular sex, either male or female.  Japanese Knotweed requires 2 plants for seed production. It attracts wildlife.  Once established it quickly forms a nice colony.  In its native habitat, Reynoutria can be found growing along in wet waste land and by the road sides.  This plant has to be contained or trimmed to prevent its massive spread. 
Mexican Bamboo is edible and is loaded with
Vitamin A, C, Manganese, Oxalic Acid, Phosphorus, Potassium and Resveratrol.  It also contains medicinal properties for the treatment pf various ailments.  The plant extract. is said to treat tumors.  The leaves used in poultice form treats abcess.  The roots have the action of a laxative.  It is always wise to consult a physician before consuming this plant.
