Comments:  Punica granatum or Pomegranate is a frost hardy shrub that can tolerate down to 10 degrees F.  This medium growing tree is a heavy bearer of reddish-orange edible fruits with hard rind.  The fruits are tastier and juicier when stored longer.  There are many uses for the fruits among which are for making healthy fruit juices, jellies, cake flavoring, sauces, wine, syrup or used as a lovely fruit bowl decoration.  Punica granatum spreads by suckers and these can be removed and trnasplanted.  It self-pollinates and is also pollinated by insects.  Cut back plant when 2' high to allow an even number of about 4-5 shoots from all sides to form a well-balanced plant. Pomegranate is an excellent plant for the landscaping garden and is very easy to grow.
