Origin:  West Asia, East Mediterranean
Family: Moraceae

Fruits:  Sweet, elongated, brownish-maroon
Foliage:   Deciduous, green, 3-5 lobed, large
Soil:  Well-drained, poor
Water:  Regular
Insects/Disease:  Watch out for fig beetles

Uses:  Container, specimen, landscaping
Propagation:  Grafting, budding, hardwood cutting
Caution:  Sap from leaves and stems may cause skin irritation
Comments: Ficus carica or Higo or Fig trees are easy to grow hardy tropical trees that can also be grown indoors in a 5-gallon container.  Higo fruits can be eaten fresh and are used to make preserves, desserts and wine.  Fig trees atttract birds and bees.  Protect Ficus carica from wind
