Comments:  Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun' or Blanket Flower or Indian Blanket is a hardy ornamental perennial with a compact, mounding growth habit.  It is an superb cultivated hybrid.  In mid-Summer, Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun' repeatedly produces bright red-orange blossoms with yellow ring, followed later by seeds.  Butterflies and bees are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms while the birds enjoy feasting on the seeds.  Florists are delighted with the lovely cut cherry flowers of this long blooming perennial till hit by frost.  Blanket Flower 'Arizona Sun' has uniformly-shaped foliage in every plant.  It  is easily propagated from rootball divisions in mid-Summer or seeds.  Gaillardia 'Arizona a Sun' thrives best in well-drained, poor,  mildly acidic, neutral or mildly alkaline soil in a sunny environment.  It self sows readily so deadhead spent flowers to avoid seedlings next season.  It is heat loving and is low maintenance.  Gaillardia grandiflora 'Arizona Sun' tolerates drought when established and is ideal for xeriscaping. Deers would not go near it.  Mass plant Indian Blanket 'Arizona Sun' in beds or borders for a dramatic display.  It can be container grown.  Blanket Flwoer 'Arizona Sun' makes an excellent companion plant for other perennials.  It is  a terrific show stopper. 
Interestingly, Gaillardia grandiflora 'Arizona Sun' is 2005 winner of All-American Selection and the European Fleroselect award.
