Comments:
Iberis amara
or Hyacinth Candytuft
or
Rocket
Candytuft is a
low-growing compact groundcover with an upright growth habit. It
is a native of Western Europe and a member of the Mustard family.
In mid-Summer from March through August,
Iberis amara produces prolific eye-catching spires of fragrant
white terminal 4-petaled blossoms on short erect stems. The dried
flowers makes great dried flower arrangements.
Rocket
Candytuft
has green herbaceous foliage. It is
easily propagated from seeds
and performs best in well-drained soil with lime added.
Hyacinth Candytuft
loves cool weather. It
self-sows readily; deadhead spent blossoms to promote a longer bloom.
Mass plant Hyacinth Candytuft
as groundcovers under taller trees, or in the rock garden. Use
them in beds or along walkways, as edging plants along driveways.
Iberis amara looks delightful as a filler in mixed container
planting. Hyacinth Candytuft
is easy to grow and is not demanding. In its native habitat,
Rocket
Candytuft can be
found thriving in chalky grassland and quarries.
Interestingly, the word 'iberis' is a Greek word for 'from Iberia'.
