Lithodora diffusa 'Grace Ward' or Grace Ward Lithodora is a hardy evergreen groundcover with a low, mat-forming, spreading growth habit.  This heritage perennial was formerly known as Lithospermum diffusum.  It is a native of Southern Europe and a member of the Borage family.  .From late Spring through frost Lithodora diffusa 'Grace Ward' constantly bears profuse, charming, star-shaped, true blue terminal blossoms among prostrate velvety, green foliage.  Cut plant back after flowering season is over to maintain shape and to promote new growth at center.  Grace Ward Lithodora is easily propagated from softwood cutings.  It performs best in well-drained acidic soil in a morning sun and afternoon shade location.  It is low maintenance and can tolerate drought conditions.  Lithodora diffusa 'Grace Ward' has a moderate growth rate; fertilize once a year during growing season for optimum growth.  It is mat-forming and soon forms a lovely carpet. Lithodora diffusa 'Grace Ward' tolerates light foot traffic.  Deers would not go near it.  Lithodora diffusa 'Grace Ward' is an excellent choice for rock garden.  Mass plant as bedding plants, under perennials, shrubs or trees for an eye-catching view.  Grace Ward Lithodora can also be container cultivated for the porch.  It is ideal for edging along driveways or use it for the rock garden'  In colder areas, mulch Lithodora diffusa 'Grace Ward' well in the Fall to protect from Winter snow.
