Hakonechloa macra 'Beni-Kazi' or Red Wind Forest Grass is a rare
ornamental grass with a fast, mounding growth habit. It has showy soft,
flowing chartreuse green strappy foliage that turns spectacular flushes
of red and burgundy as the weather turns cooler in the Fall.
Hakonechloa macra 'Beni-Kazi' is easily propagated from rootball
divisions and thrives best in well-drained soil in a shady
environment. It is low maintenance. Deers would not bother it. Mass
plant Red Wind Forest Grass in borders or along the driveway. Use them
along walkways for a dramatic view or plant along a retaining wall
allowing it to cascade over for a dazzling display. Hakonechloa macra
'Beni-Kazi looks excellent around a pond. What a pleasure to watch the
intermixed brilliant colored leaves perform an awesome dance with the
wind at the slightest breeze. Red Wind Forest Grass makes an exquisite
groundcoer under taller trees. It is a welcoming sight as it brings
colorful life to the Fall landscape. Hakonechloa macro 'Beni-Kazi' is a
terrific showstopper; it stops foot traffic in their tracks.
