Comments: Hesperaloe parviflora or False Yucca or Red Yucca or Hesperaloe parviflora var. parviflora or Yucca parviflora is a hardy evergreen succulent perennial with a clumping growth habit. It is a native of northern Mexico and southwestern United States. In Summer, Hesperaloe parviflora produces red tubular blossoms appearing on long arching spike atop blue-green stiff grass-like foliage. This is followed later by seeds. Hummingbirds are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossom. False Yucca is easily propagated from seeds or offsets. It thrives best in well-drained, highly acidic, neutral or highly alkaline soil in a sunny location. Red Yucca is excellent for xeriscaping. It tolerates drought well and is low maintainance. Use Yucca parviflora on slopes or plant in dry area of landscape. This sub-shrub with a woody base looks ornamental and stays green all year round. False Yucca is popularly cultivated by many hobbyists.
