Comments:
Hosta sieboldiana 'Elegans' or Elegans Plantain Lily or Hosta 'Robusta'
is a perennial groundcover with a slow, mounding, clumping growth
habit. It is a very showy hybrid. In mid-Summer, Hosta sieboldiana
'Elegans' produces abundant, attractive white, funnel-shaped flowers on
tall scape, followed later by seeds. Hummingbirds are magnetized by the
nectar-rich flowers while the birds enjoy feasting on the seeds.
Elegans Plantain Lily has outstanding blue-green, heart-shaped, thic,
broadly ovate leaves with deeply corrugated veins. The seeds as well as
clump divisions are easily propagated. It thrives best in
well-drained, moist, rich soil in a partly shaded environment, ideally
where it can receive morning sun and afternoon shade. Hosta 'Robusta'
is low maintenance and can tolerate some drought. Mulch to preserve
moisture especially in Summer. Mass plant Hosta sieboldiana 'Elegans'
as groundcovers under taller trees for a splendid display. Its large,
blue-green leaves is easily spotted from afar. Hosta 'Robusta' is an
excellent focal point in the garden. Use it around ponds, in borders or
in background planting. Elegans Plantain Lily is a terrific
showstopper, providing Spring, Summer and Fall interest.
