Comments:  Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mariesii Variegata' or Bigleaf Hydrangea Lacecap is an attractive deciduous shrub with a dome-shaped growth habit.  From mid-Summer to early Fall, Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mariesii Variegata' produces gorgeous clusters of lacecap flowers ranging from pink, white or blue depending on the pH of the soil.  In acid soils, the smaller fertile florets in the center of the clusters are bluer than the larger surrounding nonfertile florets. Bees, birds and butterflies are magnetized by this pretty shrub.  Florists are delighted with its fresh flowers for lovely bouqust;  the dried flowers can also be preserved for floral arrangements.  Bigleaf Hydrangea Lacecap has gorgeous variegated foliage.  It is easily propagated from cuttings o layering and performs best in well-drained sandy, clayey, loamy acidic, neutral or alkaline soil and enjoys a sunny to part shade location.  Before blossom appear, for lovely blue flowers, feed plant lightly with Aluminium sulphate or add lime to soil if you want lovely pink flowers.  Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mariesii Variegata' is low maintenance and easy to grow.  Protect from wind.  Prune after flowering to maintain shape and size to promote blooms for next season.  Mass plant Big leaf Hydrangea Lacecap for an added statement in the shady landscape.  For colder regions Bigleaf Hydrangea macrophylla 'mariesii Variegata' makes an excellent foliage plant in the absence of the flowers.  It is a terrific showstopper.  What  a beuty...just the foliage alone is enough to draw anyone's attention.
