Comments: Hylotelephium 'Purple Emperor' or Autumn Stonecrop or Showy Stonecrop is a hybrid herbaceous perennial succulent with an upright, dense growth habit. In late Summer, terminal deep purple buds appear on Hylotelephium 'Purple Emperor' which open to star-shaped rosy-pink flowerheads through late Fall. Florists enjoy the lovely cut flowers. Butterflies and bees are magnetized by its nectar-rich blossoms. In Spring, Showy Stonecrop Purple Emperor produces deep green herbaceous succulent foliage on purple stems; the leaves turn to an exquisite reddish purple in Summer. Autumn Stonecrop Purple Emperor is easily propagated from rootball divisions, stem cuttings or leaf cuttings. It thrives best in well-drained, poor dry, sandy, gravelly soil, in a sunny location. Hylotelephium 'Purple Emperor' tolerates drought well and is excellent for xeriscaping. It is low maintenance. Mass plant Showy Stonecrop Purple Emperor along walkways or driveways for a terrific display. Group plant for added colors in the rock garden. Hylotephium 'Purple Emperor' can also be container cultivated.
