Comments:  Iris germinica 'Candy Apple' or Standard Dwarf Bearded Iris is a perennial bulbous plant with a medium spreading growth habit.  It is a showy hybrid by hybridizer Hamblen (1972).  In mid-Spring, Iris germinica 'Candy Apple' produces spectacular, large magenta blooms attracting butterflies and birds.  It has herbaceous foliage.  Standard Dwarf Bearded Iris is easily propagated from rhizome divisions in late Summer or Fall.  Iris germinica 'Candy Apple' and thrives best in well-drained, sandy, alkaline to neutral soil.  Standard Dwarf Bearded iris can tolerate some drought.  It is deer and rabbit resistant.  Divide every few years to prevent overcrowding and fertilize in early Spring, after blooming and in the Fall.  Mass plant Iris germinica 'Candy Apple' in the border for a terrific display.  It is an incredible show stopper.
