Comments: Justicia brandegeanna or Red Shrimp Plant is a subtropical perennial with a weak branching growth habit. It is a showy native of Mexico. In Spring, Justicia brandegeanna produces repeated blooms of interesting showy white with rust to red colored bracts. it has evergreen foliage. Hummingbirds and butterflies are very much attracted to its nectar-rich blossoms. Red Shrimp Plant is easily propagated from softwood cuttings or simple layering. It performs best in well-drained, mildly acidic soil in a light shade location. justicia brandegeanna is hardy in the south and is killed by frost outside its growing zones but usually bounces back in Spring. Mass plant for a terrific show in the perennial landscape. Red Shrimp Plant can also be container cultivated as a houseplant. It is a good performer and is a fabulous show stopper.
