Comments:  Kerria japonica or Easter Rose or Japanese Kerria or Japanese Rose or Yellow Rose of Texas is a showy deciduous flowering shrub with an arching, suckering growth habit.   It is a native of Japan.  In mid-Spring, Kerria japonica produces prolific bright yellow single blossoms covering the entire tree, followed later by another shower of blossoms in Summer.  Since it blooms around Easter, hence its common name, Easter Rose.  Japanese Kerria has deciduous green leaves with serrated margins.  It is easily propagated from suckers, cuttings.  It performs best in well-drained, hums-rich, acidic or poor soil in a partly shaded environment.  Japanese Rose is low maintenance.  It branches out both vertically and horizontally and has an airy appearance.  Kerria japonica has suckering roots; plant it in between concretes to control it's spread.  It looks lovely as backdrops in a mixed border planting.   Mass plant Easter Rose as foundation plants or as informal hedges.  It makes an ideal living fence.  Use Japanese Kerria on slopes to help prevent soil erosion.  Its eye-catching Irish-green bare branches provide Winter interest.   Yellow Rose of Texas is very showy and attracts a lot of attention.
Interestingly, Kerria japonica is named after an avid 19th century plant collector.
