Comments: Kniphofia uvaria or Red Hot Poker or Torch Lily or Tritoma is a hardy perennial with a rhizomatos spreading growth habit. It is a native of South Africa. In mid-Summer, Kniphofia uvaria produces showy vibrant colored flowerheads, followed later by seeds. It has herbaceous basal foliage. Birds, hummingbirds, bees and butterflies are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms. Red Hot Poker is easily propagated from seeds or rhizome divisions and thrives best in well-drained, neutral soil in a sunny location. It can tolerate moist or drought conditions. Deers tend to avoid Torch Lily. It is a self-seeder and also spreads by means of its thick rhizomes. Mass plant for a delightful display in the perennial bed. Tritoma adds a tropical flair and brightens the dry Summer landscape with its sizzling colors. Knophofia uvaria is an attention getter.
