Comments: Abelia x grandiflora 'Edward Goucher' or Glossy Abelia is a
cross of Abelia grandiflora and Abelia schumannii by Edward
Goucher in 1911. It is a beautiful
semi-evergreen shrub
with a sprawling habit. In Summer, plants grown in warmer areas will retain its reddish foliage while those grown in colder areas will
lose half of its remaining red leaves. The stems grow in a v-shape form from the
ground forming a round upright small tree. Glossy Abelia has prolific long-lasting blooms that attracts many bees, butterflies and
hummingbirds.
This shrub is carefree, frost tolerant and fast-growing. Fertilize
plant in Spring or Fall and protect it from
the cold wind.. Abelia x grandiflora 'Edward Goucher' blooms best in
full sun and it can be pruned to maintain size
and shape after flowering. I love this shrub as it provides Winter
interest with its beautiful fragrant flowers.
