Comments:  Dactylifera phoenix or Edible Date Palm or True Date Palm is a spectaculat multi-stemmed palm tree with a thick canopy.  that produces delicious dates. Prune suckers regularly to maintain a single-stemmed tree.  Edible Date Palm has a broad gray trunk with diamond-shaped leaf scars.  For many years, this has been an important food source of the Africans and people in the Middle East.  True Date Palm is also a popular ornamental plant sought by many in residential areas for its majestic look.  This
handsome palm loves heat and humidity.  This graceful palm can be grown in a sheltered area in areas with mild frost;  expect some frost-damage on the top part of leaves and fruits dropping before ripening.  Dactylifera phoenix is propagated from seeds and suckers removed at the base of the plant.
