Comments:
Ensete superbum or
Thailand Rock Banana is a very rare tropical ornamental plant with an
erect growth habit. It is found growing in its native land of
Northern India and higher regions of Thailand. Ensete superbum is
easily propagated from seeds and thrives in a sunny to part shade, moist
location. It is low maintenance and grows fast.
Thailand Rock Banana
is hardy to 30 degrees
Fahrenheit, probably is the hardiest species. It has a red-blushed
midrib on the underside of its huge leaves and a short pseudostem. The
appearance of
Ensete
superbum resembles a huge nest fern. It has a waxy, bluish
bottle-shaped trunk measuring 7-8' around and 6' tall, narrowing below
the leaves. In Winter, it dies down to the ground and
re-emerge with new growth in Spring.
Mulch well to protect from
frost. Its sturdy lush foliage makes this rare plant a magnificent
specimen, drawing much attention. Thailand Rock Banana can
be container cultivated for the sunny deck, patio or home. It adds
a tropical flair to the landscape.
