Comments:
Ensete superbum or Thailand Rock Banana is a very rare tropical ornamental plant with an erect growth habit.  It is found growing in its native land of Northern India and higher regions of Thailand.  Ensete superbum is easily propagated from seeds and  thrives in a sunny to part shade, moist location.  It is low maintenance and grows fast.  Thailand Rock Banana is hardy to 30 degrees Fahrenheit, probably is the hardiest species.  It has a red-blushed midrib on the underside of its huge leaves and a short pseudostem. The appearance of  Ensete superbum resembles a huge nest fern.  It has a waxy, bluish bottle-shaped trunk measuring 7-8' around and 6' tall, narrowing below the leaves.   In Winter, it dies down to the ground and re-emerge with new growth in Spring.   Mulch well to protect from frost.  Its sturdy lush foliage makes this rare plant a magnificent specimen,  drawing much attention.  Thailand Rock Banana can be container cultivated for the sunny deck, patio or home.  It adds a tropical flair to the landscape.
USDA Hardiness Zones :  9-11
