Popinac or Horse Tamarind or Wild Tamarind is an exotic looking deep-rooted tropical flowering tree that resembles the Mimosa tree.
This upright tree has angular branching and a narrow crown.
Horse Tamarind
produces beautiful round
soft white balls
of flowers on long stalks. At the end of the flowering season, hard
flat brown
seedpods are produced. Small flat shiny seeds are found inside the
Mimosa leucocephala Lamark
seed pods. These seeds are popularly used as ornaments and in cosmetic jewelries.
White Lead Tree is a self-seeder and it attracts birds bees
and butterflies. White Popinac is drought tolerant and makes a nice carefree, shrub
for the xeriscaping garden. Wild Tamarind can
tolerate temperature of as low as 20 degrees F. Protect plant from frost.
