Comments: Rhapidophyllum hystrix or Needle Palm or Raptor Palm or
Porcupine
tree is the most winter hardy of all palms, tolerating temperature as
low as -20 degrees F.. It is a low maintenance perennial shrub with a medium growth rate. This
beautiful short-trunk evergreen palm tree tolerates the winter cold in my garden
without any protection. It is a self-seeder. Seeds are usually found scattered around the base of the plant and they
are easy to grow. Seedlings pop up around the mother plant. Needle Palm was
named beacuse of its upward-pointed needles found on the stems of every
leaf. Here are some pictures of the Rhapidophyllum hystrix palm
tree looking great in my landscape garden.
