Family:  Acanthaceae
Origin:  Native to north-eastern Peru and Equador
Light:  Bright indirect light, light shade at mid-day
Height:  6-8' 
Spread:  4-6'
Blooms:  Terminal spike of 6-10 colorful, tubular, 2" long bright yellow flowers with red bracts
Foliage:  Attractive, smooth, variegated, bright green with yellow veins on smooth purple stem
Soil:  Well-drained, keep moist
Water:  Abundant when growing, reduce in Winter
Propagation:  Cuttings
Uses:  Border, landscape, container, indoor
Comments:  Sanchezia speciosa or Sanchezia or Gold Vein Plant is an interesting erect perennial shrub with handsome foliage and colorful repeated blooms.  The variegated foliage, reminicense of the Zebra Plant, adds visual effect to the tropical landscape or border garden.  Protect Sanchezia plant from frost. This plant dies back to the ground in winter in zone 8b, however it will return in the Spring. Sanchezia speciosa plant is easy to grow and it makes a great indoor plant; place pot in a tray of water with pebbles in it.  It loves being misted at least twice a day.  Hummingbirds love the
Gold Vein Plant.
