Origin:  Malaysia, Taiwan, Pacific Islands
Light:  Bright indirect light
Height:  10-12''

Foliage:  Shiny, variegated, dark green with cream, forming a fingered umbrella
Soil:  Well-drained with sand added, keep moist

Water:  Abundant, especially in Summer, reduce in Winter
Fertilization:  Slow Release/liquid fertilizer with iron added, 2-3 times/year
Propagation: Seeds (sow ASAP), single-node cuttings, air layering
Uses:  Landscaping, container, houseplant, bonsai
Insects / Diseases:  Watch for mealy bugs, scales, aphids, catterpillars, fungas ngats and spider mites, especially under the leaves/Altemaria Leaf Spots may cause leaf drop 
Comments:  Schefflera arboricola 'Trinette' or Dwarf Umbrella Plant or Hawaian Elf or Hawaian Umbrella Tree or Hawaian Scheffler or Arboricola Trinette Tree is an attractive tropical shrub with lovely leaf variegation which differs on every leaf.  Arboricola Trinette Tree tolerates temperature between 35-105 degrees F but best between 65 & 90 degrees F.  Dwarf Umbrella Plant loves bright light; growing it in direct sunlight will cause leaves to scorch.  Hawaian Elf  loves the humidity so mist often or let potted plant sit on pebbles placed in tray of water with water level lower than base of pot.  Arboricola 'Trinette' Tree makes a great indoor plant and it can be trained as a bonsai.  Grown in masses, these delightful shrubs looks great as understory plants.   Trim Hawaian Umbrella Tree in Spring for a fuller, mroe rounded shape and size.  The cuttings are easily propagated in a glass of water.
