Comments: Senna
bicapsularis or Butterfly Bush or Butterfly Cassia or Cassia
bicapsularis or Christmas Senna or Golden Shower or Winter Cassia or
Yellow Candle Wood
is an evergreen shrub with a sprawling habit. This gorgeous open,
sprawling tree is popularly grown in tropical regions. In
late Fall or early Winter,
Butterfly Bush
produces floriferous bright yellow flowers on long-stalked clusters
which attracts many bees and butterflies. Christmas Senna is The Cloudless Sulphur
(Phoebis sennae) and Sleepy Orange (Eurema nicippe) butterflies are
attracted to this beautiful shrub.
Butterfly Cassia is a self seeder and is very easy to grow.
Frost will kill the plant to the ground but it will spring back next
season with new growth. Prune Cassia bicapsularis to maintain
shape and size or train into a small tree. Golden Shower is a
great butterfly shrub for my landscaping garden. It really
enhances the bleak looking garden with its terrific looking abundant
golden showers of blooms in Winter.
