Comments: Trachycarpus fortunei or Chinese Windmill Palm or Chusan Palm is
one of the most winter hardy of all palms. It is salt-water tolerant and
can survive as far north as Canada as well as upper north region of the
United States. It is a low maintenance perennial tree with
interesting brown burlap-like bark around the tree trunk. It is a
self-seeder. Seeds are usually found scattered around the base of the plant and they
are easy to grow. Seedlings pop up around the mother plant.
Trachycarpus fortunei has a medium growth rate and looks terrific when grown around a
pool or the patio.
