(Yellow Chinese Banana, Golden Yellow Banana)

Origin:  Native to southeast Asia including southwest China, Yunan, Laos, Myanmar
Light:  Sun-part shade/shade
Height:  4-6'
Spread:  3-4'
Blooms:  Unique, gold, thistle-like, late Spring.  Flower lasts as long as 9 months
Foliage:  Silvery-grey, leathery
Trun:  Green with tinge of red, has a narrow top and a broad base
Soil:  Well-drained, keep moist

Propagation: Suckers
Uses:  Borders, specimen
Comments:  Musella lasiocarpa or Yellow Chinese Banana or Golden Yellow Banana is a hardy dwarf banana shrub that is very easy to grow.  Golden Yellow Banana is not only hardy but is pest and disease tolerant as well.  Plant is monocarpic so plant dies after blooming.  Musella lasiocarpa is a rather unique plant to have in the landscaping garden as it bears flowers in the absence of foliage.  Yellow Chinese Banana is easily propagated by suckers.
