Comments:  Pittosporum tobira or Australian Laurel or Japanese Pittosporum or Japanese Cheesewood or Japanese  Mock Orange is an attractive upright shrub with a compact spreading mound growth habit.   This terrific looking evergreen shrub is drought tolerant.  Pittosporum tobira can also tolerate salt spray and heat.  This tough shrub has stiff branches and lustrous dark green leaves.  When grown in masses, Australian Laurel ' makes an excellent understory shrub or lovely groundcover grown under trees.  It is also popularly grown as a nice hedge or along fence lines or as a lovely screen or as a foundation plant.  Grow them in containers to enhance the patio.  Japanese  Mock Orange can be easily propagated by seeds and softwood cuttings.  Trim Japanese Pittosporum to maintain size and shape.  This durable dense shrub makes an impact in the perennial landscape with its beautiful foliage and wonderful fragrant blooms.
