Comments:  Lavendula stoechas 'Kew Red' or Spanish Lavender or Lavendula stoechas pedunculata is a perennial herbal shrub with a compact growth habit
.  This eye-catching plant was introduced by Kew Gardens in 1999.   In late Spring or early Summer, Lavendula stoechas 'Kew Red' produces fuschia blossoms with pink bracts atop aromatic,  fuzzy, silvery-green foliage.  Bees, butterflies go crazy over the nectar-rich blossoms while birds enjoy feasting on the seeds.  Florists are delighted with the cut flowers.  Dried flowers make wonderful fragrant potppourii.  Deadhead spent blossoms to promote extra blooms.  Spanish Lavender is easily propagated from woody stem cuttings.  Seeds would not come true to parent.  Lavendula stoechas pendunculata thrives best in well-drained, sandy soil in a sunny location.  It is low maintenance and tolerates drought condition.  Mass plant Spanish Lavender in perennial borders or rock garden for a spectacular display.  Lavendula stoechas 'Kew Red' can also be container cultivated.  Grow some along walkways or the patio where its beauty and fragrance can be appreciated.  Lavendula stoechas pedunculata is great for  xeriscaping.  It  is a terrific show stopper.
