Leymus arenaius 'Blue Dune' or Blue Lyme Grass or Sand Rye Grass is an
ornamental grass with clumping growth habit. It has attractive silvery
blue linear foliage. Leymux arenaius 'Blue Dune' produces bluish-white
to gray flowers early Summer through early Fall, followed by seeds.
Blue Lyme Grass is easily propagated from seeds or rootball divisions.
It performs best in well-drained soil in a sunny location. Sand Rye can
be container cultivated. It loves humidity and tolerates drought
conditions, hence is excellent for xeriscaping. Blue Lyme Grass holds
its color well into Winter. Use it with darker perennials for a
contrasting effect. Mass plant Leymus arenaius 'Blue Dune' on slopes or
hillsides to counter soil erosion. In
late Fall or in early Spring, cut back for a renewed display of lovely
blue leaves. Blue Lyme Grass is a terrific show stopper.
