Comments:  Lillium 'Avignon' or Asiatic Lily is a hardy hybrid perennial lily with a fast, growth habit.  It has deciduous smooth, green foliage.  In late Spring or early Summer, Lillium 'Avignon' produces showy, large bright red-orange blossoms with 6 spotted petals, followed later by seeds.  Florists are delighted with the fresh cut flowers for a lovely bouquet.  Cut spent flowers to half length of stem to store nutrients for next season's growth.  Asiatic Lily is easily propagated from bulb or offset divisions taken in Fall or Spring.  It thrives best in well-drained, neutral or alkaline, organic-rich soil in a sunny to part shade location.  Plant Lillium 'Avignon' in multiples of 3 or more for a terrific view in a raised border to prevent root rot.  Provide stake for support.  Asiatic Lily 'Avignon' naturalizes easily.  Its flowering season is a month ahead of Oriental hybrid lilies.  Plant these two together for a dazzling non-stop display in the Summer landscape.  Mass plant Lillium 'Avignon' in shady beds or as specimen plants.  Asiatic Lily can also be container cultivated.  Its splendid vibrant colors makes it a magnificent show stopper.

USDA Zones:  3-8
